Transfering Files & Managing Your Web Site

FTP Basics

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is one method used for transferring files (HTML pages, graphics, etc.) to and from your server. We suggest using programs specifically designed for transferring your files.

When you log into your web server using FTP, you will find two directories (also referred to as folders). They are named logs and web. Everything placed in your web directory will be viewable on your web site. In the logs directory you will find your server logs. You may create other directories in the root of your web server, but they will only be viewable by you. The sub-directories you create in your web directory will appear as sub-directories on your web site.
